Discover all there is to visit, to see and discover about Castellaneta and its surroundings and how to best organize your stay between nature, culture and “Blue Flag” beaches.

Castellaneta’s Tourist Info Point is available to help in Piazza Principe di Napoli, in the heart of the CUT VILLAGE.
Castellaneta
Castellaneta is in the heart of the Regional Naturel Park Terra delle Gravine and can be found in the middle of the western part of the Arco Ionico of Taranto. Between sea and ravines, the territory offers a variety of landscapes, resulting from millenniums of rocky villages, civilizations built around and inside rocks that have been excavated by men and time.
Borgo Antico
The Borgo Antico (Old City) of Castellaneta is characterized by little, narrow streets and houses built on cliffs over ravines and still conserves its original urban layout from 1700. The 13th century Cathedral and the Baronial Palace, both found in the historical center, are examples of Castellaneta’s once great importance as a center of civilization and religion.
The Sea
Immersed within a pine forest, Castellaneta Marina is one of the most prized beaches along the Gulf of Taranto, which has been awarded the Blue Flag thanks to the clear blue shallow water, numerous amenities, and accommodating structures. Castellaneta Marina has been chosen by Vasco Rossi as his favorite retreat.
THE “GRAVINE” (THE RAVINES)
The ravines are erosive incisions cut into the earth that go down as far as 150 meters and are very similar to canyons. The ravines were carved out by rainwater that fell on the limestone rock and flowed from the plateaus of the Murgia to the sea. These spectacular grooves safeguard true biodiverse treasures, protected within the Regional Park “Terre delle Gravine”.
Rudolph Valentino
Rudolph Valentino, a sex symbol of silent movies, was born in Castellaneta on May 6th, 1895. A true Mediterranean beauty with magnetic eyes, he performed the fantasies and dreams of millions of women. His characters ranged from sheik to aristocrat to bullfighter to gallivant and earned him the title of Latin Lover. An elaborate bronze plaque can be found on the front of the building of his birth home in Castellaneta as well as a monument and museum dedicated to him.
